Soap Making Workshop
Natural, cold-process soap making
with Susie Hartman
Cardwell, Montana. Approximately Saturday May 3, 2023

      Learn how to make natural soap for your family and friends with soap maker Susie Hartman. Soap making is a practical skill and natural soap makes great gifts and trade items. This workshop will focus on the basics of natural, cold-process soap making and cover basic soap chemistry, lye safety, tools of the trade, using natural colorants and scents, plus much more. We will discuss using animal fats as well as vegetable oils, homemade and commercial lye. Working in groups, participants will create a tallow blend soap with customized scents and colors that they will be able to take home with them at the end of the class.

About the Instructor
      Susie Hartman lives on an off-grid homestead with her family in the mountains of Southwest Montana. She operates a small soap business called Tending Nature, focusing on making natural soaps with local ingredients. Susie loves to travel and share the craft of soap making with others. She has taught soap workshops in Montana for over ten years.
